Medicaid / MediCare
Sure, having insurance as a child, teen and adult is important, but how about when you are 65 years or older, then what type of insurance are you looking at? There are two types of insurance policies in this case. The first is Medicare. If you are 65 years or older, Medicare can help you out because it is a federal government program that provides health care coverage for people who are 65 years or older. It also covers those who have a disability and your income does not affect your chances to qualify.
Medicare consists of two parts, known as Part A and Part B. Part A covers home health and hospital care, skilled nursing facility and hospital needs. Part B covers outpatient hospital services, doctors’ services, durable medical equipment and other medical services and supplies. In addition, there is also a Part C and Part D. Part C gives you the option to get Medicare-covered health care services through a private and secure health plan. Part D provides a card, known as the “drug discount card”, which can save you money on your prescription drugs.
Along with Medicare, there is also Medicaid. Medicaid can provide people with free health insurance for older adults with low-incomes. Adults that are eligible for this receive their medical care through a managed care plan or free-for-service. Medicaid is available for people over 65 years old. Your income level is also very important when it comes to seeing if you are eligible for Medicaid. Medicaid also covers, but is not limited to, the following medical needs such as:
- Specialist care
- Dental care
- Emergency room care
- Regular checkups
- Home health care
